[Nov. 23rd, 2006|10:27 pm] |

Woot for cooking my own Thanksgiving! Ok, so we bought gravy, but we made cornbread, sweet potato casserole, turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, green beans, and "perfect" mashed potatoes. Mmmmhmmm soo good. Oh I do love getting fat ;) |

| Classes....finally |
[Sep. 15th, 2006|12:23 am] |
|
Woot to first day of classes. And my only class was Astrobiology (which personally I think is the coolest word ever...but that's just me). It's geoscience/astrophysics/bio/chem all mixed into one. And we go to Yellowstone over Fall break (i love field trips) It was weird being in a classroom again, with someone lecturing and taking notes. I felt like summer was so fast, and now it's finally hit me that I have to work again. I'm trying out for a dance group on campus too, called DiSiac. We'll see how that goes. Life is pretty fun right now, if awkward meeting people, then forgetting their names and having to ask for it again. I also have yet to find a real group of friends, but I'm sure that'll come on its own time. For now I'm enjoying my freedom :) Hope all is well with all y'all! |

| Wowza |
[Sep. 9th, 2006|01:40 am] |
It took a long time to finally get to Freshman orientation (which is actually tomorrow). I feel like I've been here for a very long time, but it's actually only been about 2 weeks... I'm used to being away from home now? Before the camping trip I was kinda apprehensive about the whole thing, just not knowing people and it was a big change, but the trip was kind of a buffer between the summer and school (which actually hasn't started in any way, just yet...) Camping was awesome in and of itself and making friends at Princeton was just a bonus. The one thing I still feel a bit off about is how to make friends. I know I'll meet people in class and through organizations, but becoming friends is sometimes difficult for me. I dunno. Also as an abstainer, there apparently isn't that much to do at Princeton on the weekends, but I'm sure I'll find something to do, whether it be QAF marathons or private dance parties (with friends who also don't want to get drunk every night). Oh, funny joke, funny joke: How many Princeton students does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Two, one to mix the martini and one to call the electrician.
They get better.... How many Harvard students...? One, who holds the lightbulb and the world revolves around him.
Yale? None, New Haven looks better in the dark.
Columbia? 76, one to change the lightbulb, 25 to protest the lightbulb's right not to change and 50 to hold a counterprotest.
I forget the rest of the ivy league ones...on and I learned the Princeton fight song today, which apparently has a "heil hitler" type motion while we cheer on Old Nassau. It's got a weird tune and overall isn't very good. Anyway, that's life right now. Hopefully I'll meet a lot more people in days to come. |

| New York, New York |
[Aug. 29th, 2006|10:03 pm] |
|
So I'm in the city for a day or two before I head off to Delaware (my mom's friend is there) and then I'll actually GO physically to school, only to backpack for 5 days and then orientation for another 5 AND THEN school will start. On a thursday, no less. (why start school on a thursday?! I guess that way people will "gradually adjust" to being in school for a day or two before the weekend.) On another note, I've been reading a lot (yay leisure reading!) and my favorite so far is The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Yay young adult novels? I forgot the pleasure of reading less "literary" books. :) Halfway through the Foundation Trilogy too, very interesting in its own right. So I'm not sure if this little adventure on the East coast makes the Antici....................pation better or worse. I'm thinking worse right now cuz I'm pretty nervous, but I'm sure I'll get lost in the whirlwind of activities soon enough. Granted, looking back at high school, I'm so glad I'm going to college now. The idea of going home after this trip and being a senior again...ewww... I think that's enough rambling for a night. |

| yay cicadas! |
[Aug. 25th, 2006|11:31 pm] |
|
So the East Coast experience contains many aspects, one of which is the lovely "chirping" of tons o' cicadas. Looking up cicada on wiki, I found that the "magicicada" species has a life cycle of 17 years - all spent underground except for a few days where they all come out and mate. The interesting thing is that having the 17 year cycle gives it an advantage over predators on 2 and 3 year cycles, because 17 is prime. Apparently they can also revert to a 13 year cycle, coming out of the ground 4 years early, also prime. Crazy mathematical evolution. |

| Airport! |
[Aug. 23rd, 2006|08:55 pm] |
|
Hola from PDX. I'm just waiting around for the plane. Hopefully I'll sleep. I gave my bunny a long goodbye, petting him and making baby noises. And then he noticed his food and I was quickly pushed aside in favor of more primative needs. Oh well, at least I get to see him everyday as my LJ icon...cuz I update so often. Kaya I'm really sorry I couldn't get away to see you but you should totally make a lj group for your story. I just love those hot knees (and car accidents). Ta ta all! See you all during December I suppose. |

| So... |
[Aug. 9th, 2006|11:02 am] |
I'm home! Which means an end to not worrying about just about everything and starting to worry about all that stuff I need to do. Oh well. But it also means I get to see all my good friends :)
P.S. Promise a London update sometime in the near future. |

| Alcoholic adventures |
[Jul. 25th, 2006|11:29 pm] |
|
So tonight we had a bbq with the neighbors, who are pretty cool (at least they seemed so from however much I can understand of their conversations). The bbq was concluded with a variety of digestifs, such as whiskey, chocolate liqueur, Bailey's chocolate mint and a tiny sip of cognac. My personal favorite was Bailey's mint chocolate, though the Mozart was close behind. (Kendal I think you'd like the Bailey's Mint Chocolate) Whiskey would be good for a cold winter's night, considering how much it burns. And the cognac...yea, strong stuff. I get really really red when I even drink a little bit, it's sad. In Paris we also had some stuff, such as Smirnoff Ice, Desperados beer and Ginger punch, which has the strongest ginger taste EVER. It's like you take a bite of ginger and a shot of rum. Yea. And through all of that I've yet to be drunk (good thing too, or all my morals would be kaput). Kaput is a good word. I still like liqueurs better than any drink, just because they're super sweet, though Desperados was good on a hot Paris night. Alas, I have no money for these expensive alcohols at home, so I doubt I'd drink any in the states. |

| Paris, the city of light |
[Jul. 25th, 2006|05:21 pm] |
Paris was quite amazing, though four days was not nearly enough to see everything. A few choice memories... 1. Parisian markets!! Basically it's like farmer's market in Portland but 10 times larger. That and it's in Paris and they all speak rapid French which is cool to listen too. Fruits, spices, roast chickens, jewelry, clothes, everything! 2. On the note of French language, Spongebob Squarepants is called "Bob l'Eponge." Maybe you don't find it absolutely hilarious, but I do. 3. The Eiffel Tower at night (even with the 2.5 hour wait, 1.5 to get to the 2nd floor and then 1 to get to the summit, which is really high by the way). It even goes sparkly at the hour, like seizure like sparkles. 4. My cousin Evelyne and my bro's gf Lori doing the Augustus Gloop song from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in the middle of the Metro station (Paris's metro station is pretty awesome). 5. Going "clubbing". In quotes because the club we chose was nearly empty but it's good to just hang out with your friends, not to dance really. 6. Never getting back to the Hotel before 1 am. We got about 6 hours a night for three nights and I'm exhausted. 7. The Louvre. So much artwork, it's a sensory overload. It's also the best place to hang out during the blazing hot afternoons. 8. Eating delectable tarts on this quaint little street. Food everywhere was really good. We even had an African "dinner" at 1 am in Montmartre which came with some "Ginger Punch". That drink has one hell of a kick. 9. The Arc de Triomphe was nice, but it was kind of hot and it was our last day. 10. Shopping in the Gallerie Lafayette, a massive two building (each with 7 floors) full of clothing, accessories, food court, all you can think of. This mall has Gucci, Dolce and Gabana, Versace and all those brands...THESE ARE STORES THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ON THEIR OWN, not in a mall!!!! I want the t-shirt that says "Who the fuck is D&G?" (made by D&G). That top level being just a tad out of my price range, we went down a couple levels to the underwear section, which had its share of boxers, briefs, but the best part was one company called "HOM: Lingerie d'homme." There motto was something about seduction and beauty without losing comfort. They had some transparent briefs and even a few strings. Alas, I'm not scandalous enough for any of that! 11. Oh, gay bookstore called "Les Mots à la Bouche". They had this wonderful "calender" (in quotes because it just has days and dates in tiny lettering on the bottom corner) of international rugby players half to three quarters naked. Too bad they were out of them. 12. Our last little adventure in Paris was actually...missing our plane home to Geneva. We arrived around 5 minutes before departure. Overnight in the airport was quite the experience. If you ever are stuck, BRING A BLANKET. So cold. And all that running through the metro stations and airport for nothing. I cannot WAIT for London!! Ta ta darlings. |

| WOOOT |
[Jul. 14th, 2006|01:34 pm] |
|
Um, yea, Italy was basically the most amazing place I've been to. Thousand year old sculptures and ruins; beautiful pieces of art (especially in Florence) and most of all....THE BOYS. *cough cough*. But no worries, I'm not that scandalous. Though there are much more liberal drinking laws. And what to do when the whole family is drinking hard liquor? (after dinner "digestif") Anyway, I'm in my cousins' house now in Coppet (next to Geneva) and I'll be venturing to Nice and London and Paris in the coming weeks. Oh, and I sent all those that commented postcards, expect them sometime next year. Ciao! |

Because OZ totally means Europe. Anyway, thanks to all y'all who came last night, as lame as Ring 2 was...yea... Oh, and I'm bringing the directory with me to mail postcards, but just in case, if you want a postcard comment on here (with address and which city you want) and I'll check the computer sometime while I'm over there. See you in a month! |

| It hella don't feel like summer |
[Jun. 21st, 2006|12:35 pm] |

L.A. was interesting. My grandma is much better, but still in the ICU. I'm actually really glad to be back in Oregon where there are trees and it's green. *sigh* Now only if my throat would feel better, I could actually go out and do stuff. |
|

| All because Kaya had to go and actually respond to my comment... |
[Jun. 16th, 2006|10:56 am] |
You know the drill.
1. I’ll respond with something random about you 2. I’ll challenge you to try something 3. I’ll pick a color that I associate with you 4. I’ll tell you something I like about you 5. I’ll tell you my first/clearest memory of you 6. I’ll tell you what animal you remind me of 7. I’ll ask you something I’ve always wanted to ask you 8. If I do this for you, you must post this on yours |

| Whoa |
[Jun. 9th, 2006|12:57 pm] |
|
So it's all over. Probably won't hit me for a while. Weird. Must say I did have a great time throughout it all. Sometimes maybe stressed, but it was a good time. Anyone else feel a little lost? I'm scared but excited to go to college. Then again, we have a whole summer ahead of us, and I intend to spend time with every last one of you! (Call me?) |

| What a good last day... |
[Jun. 7th, 2006|10:03 am] |
|
So basically for the past two days my joints have become ridiculousl swollen, as have my ears. Since my doctor couldn't see me yesterday I went to the emergency room, where they proceeded to take blood, insert an IV (with "fluids") and take an x-ray. After all that jazz, they decided it was an "acute viral infection" aka they have no clue what's wrong with me. So they just threw some superstrength ibuprofen at me and hopefully the inflammation will go down. Just in case you see me hobbling about like an old man, that's why. I just hope I can play in the orchestra tomorrow...eek! |
